Dickinson, Daniel - portrait of a man
The sitter is unknown, but based upon a comparison with a more recently acquired portrait of John Webster elsewhere in this Gallery, this miniature is now attributed to Thomas Edwards (1792->1866) of Boston.
The pose in both portraits is similar and the frame is the same size. Unfortunately an earlier owner had tried to clean the portrait and so it now has rubbing and water damage. 915
Much later, and despite the earlier above opinion above, a kind visitor who is making a careful and detailed study of American miniature portraits advises me that he believes, "This is a rather early Daniel Dickinson".
